I think it is modern day slavery...A lot of people do not know that prison is a big business and the bottom line of business it to make money...basically keeping your ass in there. Shit is sad that this country allows prisons to be privatized and publicly traded.

I agree that a lot of people belong in prison but on same note a lot of people dont. Answer me this fam...why do child molesters and child porn pushers get less time then street level drug dealers?

Oh of course I believe they should exist but I dont think they should be owned by some mutli-millionaire whose only interest is in making money. I personally think that is a conflict of interest with the justice system.

Re: Prison Is A Business And YOU Are The Commodity

prisons should exist to rehabilate people not
keep them in there to rot, wasnt that the initial
    purpose of prisons?

now laws like the three strike rule make it easy
for prisons to keep there numbers up thus privately
own prisons have plenty of cheep laborers available to abuse

its a matter of human rights
most of the people who work in prisons like these are well
behaved prisoners passing the time but at some point
    the line has to drawn...

harsh laws like three strike and the ridiculous drug laws
just further the point im trying to make.

three strike rule is not that harsh...
in most cases, while committing a felony you KNOW that your doing some real fucked up shit....
now if you get caught, locked up, come out, do it again get caught, locked up, come out and do it again.....then obviously you have no regard for anyone else....

quit while your ahead and you wont get that third strike....

Re: Prison Is A Business And YOU Are The Commodity

true but most cases not all now

people have 2 strikes and committe a minor crime
like i dunno smoking weed or failing a drug test and
    boom 25 years...

how would you feel if ur trying to get your life together and
you happen to slip up and smoke a j
doez that deserve 25 years?...seems like an too much imo

then these prisoners get paid nearly nothing to work
getting worked like slaves making nothing ontop of
serving a sentence for soemthing so minor.
thw problem is privately owned do not care about
rehabilitating prisons so no money is spent on programs
that would achieve this. in fact private prisons don't
even hire the right amount of guards just to cut cost.

it just seema like they go out of there way to kerp people locked
up. now i understand its not evrry single case but the numbers
    favor the issue.

Prison is a real fascinating thing. Until your sitting there doing the time.

Don't break the law (or at least don't get caught) and you won't go to prison.

    Just sayin'..
